In 1927, about 13,000 Blue-eyed Dolls were given
by America in order to improve relations between
America and Japan.
The doll at left is one of these Blue-eyed Dolls.
She is Catherine, who was sent to Uramoto Elementary
School in Itoigawa City.
During World War II, Blue-eyed Dolls throughout
Japan were burned as dolls from the enemy. However,
Uramoto Elementary School, who believed "the
doll has done nothing wrong," kept the doll
safely. Even today she is loved by the children as a
treasure of the school.
